Why play
It is the lightest lift of the seven, which makes it the perfect warm-up before Word, Connections or the trivia round. Rearranging letters under a little pressure is real vocabulary exercise, and because the answer is always a common word you have seen a thousand times, the satisfaction is in the spotting, not the studying. Everyone gets the identical scramble, so the bragging rights are honest, and a solved day feeds the same weekly leaderboard and lifetime stats as the rest of the set. Miss today and yesterday's word is still playable for half points.
Tips & strategy
- Scan the jumble for high-frequency endings first — if you can park -ING, -ED, -ER or -TION at the back, the remaining letters usually click into a stem fast.
- Count the vowels and spread them out mentally; a five-letter word with three vowels rarely stacks them together, so try splitting them around the consonants before guessing.
- Look for common openers like UN-, RE-, ST- or CH- — fixing a plausible prefix shrinks the puzzle to a much shorter scramble.
- Spend a hint only when you are genuinely stuck, since each revealed letter costs you points; reveal one near the start of the word, where it does the most to unlock the rest.
- Wrong order, right letters? Reorder before you submit — Enter checks the exact word, and the day's answer is always one ordinary word you already know.
FAQ
- How is Anagram different from Wordle or Playabl's Word game?
- Word gives you blank slots and you guess letters; Anagram hands you all the correct letters already and asks you to put them in order. There is one hidden word per day, not a series of guesses against a target.
- Is Playabl's Anagram free to play?
- Yes. Sign in with Google, pick a display name, and you get the day's Anagram plus the other six puzzles at no cost. It is a private daily game shared by everyone who joins.
- How does scoring work on the Anagram puzzle?
- You earn points for solving the day's word, and using hints reduces your score because each one reveals a letter. Scoring is calculated on the server, and yesterday's word can still be played for half points.
- Does everyone get the same scrambled word each day?
- Yes. The word is chosen from the date itself and scrambled the same way for every player, so the jumble on your screen is identical to everyone else's that day.
- Is there a hint if I cannot work out the word?
- Yes. Tapping Hint reveals one letter of the answer, and many days also show a short definition to nudge you toward the word, both at the cost of some points.
